Message from Cory Shiozaki

The Manzanar Fishing Club has once again has been invited to host a complimentary booth at upcoming Bart Hall Fishing Show at the Long Beach Convention Center from January 30th to March 2nd, 2025.

This fishing show is well attended by more than 300,000 visitors. We would like to display a plague indicating that we are partially sponsored by the South Bay JACL Chapter with the board's permission. If we have an information like a QR Code to our website we can display that as well.

At the Long Beach Japanese Community Center the MFC Educational Outreach program was given additional donations to MFC to support future events with over 40 people in attendance.

We are including photos of recent MFC events. This year we had 40 people attending the screening and 40 people on the walking tour which combined took over 4 1/2  hours but was thoroughly engaging for our guests. We had guests who came as far as Escondido, CA and a couple from the Rafu Shimpo attended. Even Manzanar’s  newly appointed Superintendent and Manager of Interpretation joined us on the walking tour and highway cleanup.  They were very impressed with the presentation.

We personally again, want to thank the SB Chapter JACL for supporting the Manzanar Fishing Club Educational Outreach Program. With this country’s upcoming administration, it’s even more relevant to help preserve the freedoms that were taken away and abuse towards Japanese Americans and other immigrants descendants so their rights aren’t violated like our Nisei and Issei generations.

Below Mas Okui, former Gardena High history teacher and a Manzanar fisherman survivor at this year’s 2024 Bart Hall Fishing Show.  Mas Okui appears in the movie.

Below Pat Nixon 4th grade elementary students.  We are now part of the Pat Nixon 4th grade curriculum and have been making presentations for over 4 years.

Thank you card from the kids.  Just a couple of over 400 cards.
